Fairport Light House is a small WordPress publication focused on local history and visits to Fairport Harbor. This policy explains what information reaches our servers, why we have it, who else may see it, and how to contact us about it.
We do not sell anything on this site, we do not run ads, and we do not operate a newsletter. User registration is not open to the public.
Information that reaches us automatically
When you load a page, our hosting environment creates standard server logs. These logs typically include your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page you asked for, the page that referred you, and your browser and device information. We use these records to keep the site reliable and secure and to understand aggregate traffic patterns.
We use a caching/CDN layer to deliver pages quickly. That service needs to see your IP address and request details to route traffic and defend against abuse. We do not use third-party analytics on this site.
If you leave a comment
Posts on this site may allow comments. If you choose to comment, the text you submit, the name you enter, and the email address you provide are stored by our WordPress installation. For spam protection and security, WordPress also records the IP address and browser user agent associated with the comment.
If you use the “save my details” option, WordPress places a small cookie in your browser so your name and email can be filled in automatically the next time you comment. You can clear this cookie in your browser settings at any time.
Cookies and local storage
WordPress sets functional cookies only:
• Commenter convenience cookies, if you opt in when leaving a comment.
• Session cookies for the single site administrator when logged in, which are not set for regular visitors.

Who can see your information
• The site’s administrator can view comment submissions and related metadata stored in WordPress.
• Our hosting provider and CDN have access to server and edge logs needed to run the service.
We do not share visitor information with advertisers or data brokers.
How long we keep it
Server and CDN logs are rotated and retained for a limited period necessary for operations and security. Comment content and its metadata are kept as part of the site’s editorial record unless you ask us to remove them or we moderate them out. Backups may retain deleted items for a short time until they expire.
Your choices and rights
You can:
• Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct or delete personal information about you, including comments you have made.
• Object to or restrict certain processing, such as retaining your comment profile details.
• Withdraw consent for commenter convenience cookies by clearing them in your browser.
If you make a request, we may need to verify that you are the person concerned. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children’s privacy
Our content is written for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information on this site, contact us and we will address it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle visitor information, we will update this page and adjust the date at the top of the policy. Substantive changes may also be noted in a site update.
